Cuban Holiday February 2012

A few days ago I left the warm and sunny climate of Cuba to return to the grey cold of Toronto. A week in the sun does a lot to restore sanity after the so far long winter season beginning three and a half months ago when the sun dimmed as it travelled south. The beach and water on the Ancon resort area near Trinidad Cuba are spectacular drawing many people both tourists and Cuban.

A row of pallapas on the beach
Running on the sand and baking in the sand

The blue Caribbean Sea and the hills near Trinidad.

This house is a restaurant and exquisitely decorated.

Cubans in Trinidad keep pet birds in cages lke this man as he sits in front of his house.

The above two street scenes show the colourful houses in the old tourist part of the city.

The main square in the colonial part of Trinidad with the church in the back.
The pool on the grounds of Brises Trinidad del mar Hotel
People at the hotel snack bar
 The hotel lobby
The path to the falls in the national park
Crossing the stream on the path to the falls
The base of the falls and swimming area
The pool and cave at the base of the falls
The motor scooter at the hotel

  1. Nice pictures John.

The restaurant reminds me of one in Sint Maarten ... no doubt a style found throughout the Caribbean.

I was struck, on the one hand, of of the security bars on the windows, but on the other hand, they were nicely painted ... unlike the drab and rusty bars on the windows in China (Two different developing countries).

The figure in the helmet looks quite cool, even without a Hell's Angels shirt. I think that the scooter designs are very attractive, they are also enjoyable to ride in good weather ... but try picking one up if it falls over (I assume that there is a large deposit?).

    1. Thanks for your comment. The deposit was 30 convertible pesos or roughly $30. I got my deposit back.
